The mythical quest “The Immortal Samurai” in Ghost of Yōtei is one of the most impressive side missions in the game and rewards you at the end with the legendary Armor of the Immortal .
To unlock the quest, first follow the main quest line for "The Oni" until you reach the Ishikari Plains northwest of the Yōtei Grasslands.
Here, to the north, you'll find the Storyteller's Rest , where you'll meet the storyteller Ugetsu .
Speak to him to hear the mythical story about the samurai who cannot die and officially start the quest "The Immortal Samurai" .
After Ugetsu tells you about the legend, the search begins for the four wind bells that the samurai supposedly left behind with his defeated opponents. You need all four to reveal his whereabouts.
1. Wind Bell - At the Narrator's Resting Place.
Immediately after speaking with Ugetsu, you'll see the first wind bell hanging from the tree directly in front of you. Beware: A hungry bear is guarding it! Defeat the beast and take the bell from the branch.
Tip: With this bell in your bag, you can swipe up on the touchpad at any time to point it into the wind. Turn until it swings the most – the next bell is in that direction. |
2nd Wind Bell - South over "Nakagoya"
Follow the direction of the first bell and ride south over the map inscription "Nakagoya ." The second wind bell hangs prominently next to a leaning tree.
3rd Wind Bell - On the western cliff.
Continue south and then climb the high cliffs to the west. There, a corpse with the third Wind Bell is hanging from a tree above the precipice.
To the right of the tree, you can press R2 near the cliff to free it. Then climb down the rock face a bit and collect the bell.
4th Wind Bell - At the Rumoi River
. Now head back to the plains. Ride north to the Rumoi River , where you'll see a ronin looting a corpse. This ronin carries the fourth wind bell —defeat him to obtain it.
With all four bells in your possession, the wind will now guide you to the cliffs west of the Ishikari Plains. Use your grappling hook to descend the rock face and follow the path until you reach a coastal cave .
There are four wooden posts in the ground. Place one of your wind chimes on each one, and the immortal samurai will appear, ready to test you in a fierce duel.
Defeat the legendary warrior to obtain the Armor of the Immortal , a powerful samurai armor that not only provides you with better protection but also increases your stamina in battle.
A reward that lives up to its name and will forever cement your reputation in Hokkaido.
